Unlike many big-name “paw paw” brands, we use real paw paw — 60% in our body cream, 30% in our face cream — not a tiny trace mixed with petroleum. In fact, most commercial paw paw balms are made with petroleum jelly, with very little fruit.

Which paw paw cream is the best? What to check on the label
A vegan paw paw cream is only as good as its first three ingredients. Here is the quick check we use ourselves:
- First ingredient. If it is petrolatum (petroleum jelly) or paraffin, you are buying a sealant with a little paw paw in it. Ours starts with certified organic aloe vera juice.
- How much paw paw. Most tubes do not say. Ours is 60% paw paw extract in the body cream and 30% in the face cream.
- Animal ingredients. Lanolin (from wool) and beeswax are common in balms and ointments. Neither is in any McArthur cream.
- Where it is made. Ours is made in Australia from Australian-grown paw paw.
What are the disadvantages of paw paw cream?
Petroleum-based paw paw ointments can feel greasy, sit on top of the skin and offer no real moisture. A natural vegan cream avoids that, but it is dearer than a supermarket tube and, like any cosmetic, deserves a patch test if your skin is sensitive. It is a moisturiser, not a medicine.
Why does it matter if a paw paw cream is vegan?
Because the animal ingredients in many balms, lanolin and beeswax, are also the ones that make them heavy and greasy. Leaving them out is better for animals and better for how the cream feels on your skin. We recommend ours for hands, elbows, heels, feet and face.
