The Story of the Paw Paw Man
At Real McArthur Paw Paw Products, our story starts with my father, Tom McArthur — known to many as The Paw Paw Man. To us, he was Dad — kind, curious, and driven to help others. But to many, he was a pioneer of natural skincare. He didn’t just talk about skincare — he lived it. Once, he dipped his fingers into a hot frying pan to prove just how powerful his paw paw ointment really was. His passion began during his time in the jungles of Malaya, where the heat and humidity caused painful skin infections. Since nothing helped, he turned to nature.
While serving, he watched a monkey chew a plant and apply it to another’s wound. That moment stayed with him forever. It sparked his belief that nature held the key to healing — and he carried that belief home. After returning to Australia, he combined his military experiences with hours of reading women’s magazines and researching natural ingredients. With help from my mum, Linda, he began crafting his own paw paw creams and tonics. These early blends brought relief to people. As word spread, more people began using his products. Despite the growing demand, Dad stayed humble.
“I’m really not bothered if it makes me rich,” he once told a journalist. What truly mattered to him was helping others — especially the Hervey Bay community that had welcomed him so warmly.

What Happened to Tom McArthur?
Tom McArthur was known by many names
To us, he was simply Dad — a kind, determined, and loving father. To many of you, he was The Paw Paw Man — the passionate force behind the iconic Real McArthur Paw Paw skin care products.
Dad poured his heart into his work. His passion for natural paw paw skincare benefits ran so deep that he dipped his fingers into a hot frying pan — more than once — just to prove how effective his paw paw ointment really was.
A Dream is Born
The inspiration for his natural paw paw skincare journey began during his time in the armed forces in Malaya. Spending long days in the jungle, army boots and humidity took a toll on his skin, causing painful fungal infections. He tried everything — fruits, vegetables, and jungle remedies.
One moment stuck with him for life: while training in the jungle, he noticed a monkey chewing on a branch and using the paste-like spit to treat another monkey’s large sore. That moment sparked something in him — a lifelong passion for natural remedies.
From there, Dad began experimenting with nature’s ingredients — bamboo shoots, leaves, bark, vegetables, and wild plants — always searching for a better way. Over the years, he dedicated himself to perfecting a method of extracting the natural enzymes from fruits, especially paw paw.
After years of trials, setbacks, and small wins, he finally got it right. And from that moment on, he never looked back — crafting the natural paw paw skincare products so many of us now know and love.
Led by curiosity, compassion, and care – Tom McArthur was a man on a mission.
He would spend countless hours pouring over the beauty pages of women’s magazines, searching for insights into the properties of fruits. That research, combined with the traditional knowledge he picked up while working alongside local villagers during his time in the armed forces, helped shape his understanding of natural remedies.
With the loving support of my mum, Linda McArthur, my dad went on to create a unique range of natural paw paw skin creams — products that have brought comfort to so many people over the years.
But for Dad, it was never about chasing wealth.
“I’m really not bothered if it makes me rich,” he once told a newspaper reporter.
What truly mattered to him was giving back — especially to the people of Hervey Bay, who welcomed him with warmth and kindness when he first arrived. His goal was simple: to create natural paw paw skincare products that made a real difference for people living with skin conditions.Today, it’s my privilege to carry on his legacy.
